I’m always taking a look in new books. The smell reminds me of Spring, beautiful birdsong, blooming nature and badgers. I’ve been reading and experiencing this since I was six. Then I already wanted to continue to learn throughout my whole life.

When I was ten, my hunger for knowledge brought me to the newspaper kiosk, where I learned a lot about language and improved my spelling during dictation. Children’s stories and games didn’t interest me. I enjoyed sport and I found this calming. By coincidence, I then read a lot about the human face, about crooked nose and breast operations. This amazed me and made me wonder why this existed. I searched for more reasons and causes, with increasing curiosity. I decided then, for a child very seriously, to become ‘Symmetrybody’ in a natural way around my fortieth or fiftieth birthday. The name became engraved "1971" on my memory immediately and, forty-three years later, symmetrybody is my intellectual property and is a huge revolution in the international medical arena, in both theory and practice.

My fear 

My father, a real character, was noble and was involved with the homeless but also had acquaintances in government and in the “better” social circles. He took care of a blind man who came to us. I then became afraid that I would also become blind.

An old man always sat a roundabout near. He had a nasal cancer around which mosquitoes flew. It pained me to see this - the almost terrifying appearance of this old man. But I was also very interested to find the cause, although I certainly knew that my father couldn’t explain it. After 43 years the answer has become my property.

In 1999 our ophthalmologist established that I could become blind. My reaction was then immediately: “Dear Sir! I will resolve this myself. I’m busy with my own research.” My own sight was very poor. I couldn’t read the sub-titles on TV. Nor could I read books, and traffic signs were unrecognisable, making it impossible for me to drive. Keratoconus - where the cornea becomes increasingly thinner - quickly progressed into a fully-developed cataract. I started to wear glasses when I was thirteen. But now I can read easily, even the small letters on a jam pot, without any aids. The world and particularly its colours now appear much more joyful.

The power of my knowledge and insight

I gained the required scientific knowledge and insight through working as a fashion designer, technical teacher, industrial and commercial cooling technology, sport education, biomechanics, and independent study in ophthalmology and oncology. My older brother supported me with all his scientific knowledge of physics and this has made me precise, attentive and disciplined. He spent a lot of effort and time on his students, enabling him to achieve not only societal results but also produce top academics. The success of our concept is thus also due to his knowledge and dedication.
